Soixante ans plus tard, la question est toujours d\u2019actualit\u00e9. Dans une perspec- tive historique et ethnographique, cette \u00e9tude inscrit ce d\u00e9bat sur la longue dur\u00e9e. Elle aboutit au constat que le d\u00e9bat autour de la \u00ab balkanisation de la RDC \u00bb surgit chaque fois que le pays traverse une crise politique : les s\u00e9ces- sions des ann\u00e9es 1960s, le contexte de guerre des ann\u00e9es 1990 et 2000 et actuellement avec la r\u00e9surgence de la r\u00e9bellion du M23. Les protagonistes du d\u00e9bat d\u00e9noncent un plan qui serait avalis\u00e9 par la communaut\u00e9 inter- nationale qui se servirait du Rwanda pour d\u00e9membrer la RDC tandis que d\u2019autres d\u00e9noncent l\u2019incapacit\u00e9 de \u00ab Kinshasa \u00bb \u00e0 impulser le d\u00e9veloppent du pays entier et estiment qu\u2019il serait utile de tenter une autre exp\u00e9rience : f\u00e9d\u00e9ralisme ou balkanisation. N\u00e9anmoins et malgr\u00e9 le d\u00e9bat strident, il s\u2019av\u00e8re qu\u2019une majorit\u00e9 des congolais ne soutient la balkanisation de la RDC, bien que nombre d\u2019eux redoutent d\u2019\u00eatre envahi par le Rwanda ou d\u2019autres forces \u00e9trang\u00e8res.
